Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2015 Fall Semester Scholarship Program. They are Azer Rustamov of the University of Missouri and Abulfaz Hajizade of the Oklahoma State University-Institute of Technology. Both students demonstrated not only a high level of ambition for academic success, but also desire to increase awareness of Azerbaijan in the U.S.
The essay competition was open to Azerbaijani and Azerbaijani-American full-time students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited institution in the United States.
The response to the scholarship competition from students across the United States was overwhelming. ASA received entries up until the deadline.
A panel of eight judges was impressed by the depth and creativity of the entries and found it difficult to choose two winners of the $1,000 US prize. In the end the selection committee awarded two outstanding students each with a $1,000 scholarship.
Established six years ago and funded exclusively by ASA members, the scholarship program has been supporting students of Azerbaijani heritage pursuing education in the U.S. ASA Scholarships are typically intended to offset direct educational expenses.
